Young Artists Program Auditions
Auditions for PORTopera’s Young Artist Program (Portland, Maine) will be held at New England Conservatory on March 20, 2010, from 11:00 to 5:00 in Room G14 of St. Botolph building (basement) at 241 St. Botolph St. in Boston.
Artistic Director Dona D. Vaughn and Young Artist Program Director Ellen Chickering are considering two operas for the 2010 season: The Impresario, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or The Night Bell (“Il campanello”) by Gaetano Donizetti.
Rehearsals for the Young Artist Program will begin in early June, 2010. Performances at six venues in Maine and New Hampshire are scheduled for late June and July, 2010. In addition, the Artistic Director anticipates artists from the Young Artist Program will sing the roles of the Sandman and the Dew Fairy in PORTopera’s mainstage production of Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel (performances July 29 and 31, 2010).
Singers of all voice types are welcome to apply. The age limit is 32. Applicants should download the application below and send completed application, resume, headshot and current cd or dvd, along with non-refundable application fee of $30 (check made payable to PORTopera) to: PORTopera Young Artist Program, P.O. Box 7733, Portland, ME 04112. Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 24. Email submissions will not be accepted.
Applicants selected for audition should be prepared to sing two arias of their choice, one in English. An accompanist will be provided at no charge to the artist.
