PORTopera's Annual Gala Beckons you

“Into the {Enchanted} Woods”

Annual Gala Invitation

The mysterious and magical forest of "Hansel and Gretel" is the inspiration for PORTopera's annual gala to take place on June 4th at the Marriott at Sable Oaks. This dinner/dance and auction is the biggest fund-raiser of the company's year and will serve as the kickoff to PORTopera's 16th Season and its mainstage production of the timeless Humperdinck opera July 29 and 31. The Marriott ballroom will be decorated in forest themes, and the guest artist will be none other than our opera's Hansel, mezzo-soprano Heather Johnson. The Marriott's team of chefs has designed a delicious authentic Abendessen (German dinner) with appropriate libations. And, as has become tradition, Bob Charest's quintessential dance band will play everyone's favorites for dancing all evening. The auction includes many valuable items including trips to operas in New York and Washington, D.C., plus the always-popular walk-on roles, this year for your children or grandchildren.

For more information or invitations, phone (207) 879-7678 or visit email info@portopera.org.

Tickets are $125 per person ($1000 for a table of 8)
and black tie is suggested.

Kate Aldrich to sing “Carmen” at
Metropolitan Opera. Would you like to go?

Rosenkavalier Kate Aldrich

We recently received word that Maine´s own Kate Aldrich, and PORTopera's own Carmen, will be singing the title role in the famous Bizet opera on stage at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. Patrons will remember her electrifying portrayal of the role in PORTopera´s production in 2006. Kate, one of world opera's rising stars, has sung the role in many of the planet´s opera houses, but this will be her first time at the Met, thought by many to be the pinnacle of success.

PORTopera is considering organizing a trip to one of her mid-week performances in early January, 2011 (tba). The trip would include transportation by bus and accommodations in New York. If you are interested in going, please contact the PORTopera office by email: info@portopera.org as soon as possible. As Kate has many fans from her hometown in the Damariscotta area, arrangements could be made for a departure from there as well as Portland. Interested parties will be notified when details are solidified.
